Building the "Corporate Dashboard": The KPI Workshop

This workshop is designed to identify the key performance indicators (KPI's) that drive a business and provide essential information to executive management. KPI's serve as the strongest definition of data required in Executive Information Systems or other management information systems initiatives where decision support is the primary objective.

How Do We Start?

We ask your executive management the following questions:

  1. What is the first information you read each day?
  2. If you could only have three pieces of information about your business, what would they be?
  3. What information do your competitors want to know about your business?
  4. What information do you want to know about your competitors?
  5. What losses have you experienced in the past through lack of information?
  6. Why didn't you have that information?
  7. What is your most important information source? Why?
  8. What factors are critical for success in your industry?
  9. How do you measure your current rate of success for each of those factors?

How Long Is the Workshop?

Five days for every five to eight user managers and executives involved: Two days preferably off-site in a workshop setting; three days for consolidation of results. Repeatable for different divisions.

What Does It Deliver?

A list of key performance indicators (KPI's) that drive the business, and the current critical success factors (CSF's) to achieving business goals, together with an entity list of the most important data elements that top management require to support the business.

Workshop on the Role of User Managers in Systems Development

This workshop is designed to enable departmental users and managers to understand the role they play in specifying requirements and reviewing models and prototypes during the systems development life cycle. Participants will learn and practice quality assurance and feedback techniques. For clients using Oracle Designer, participants will also learn how they can interact with these Oracle-specific techniques for best results.

What Do Participants Gain?

By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to offer significant corrections and confirmation of entity-relationship models, function hierarchies, process models and/or data flow diagrams, and to provide quality assurance in preparation for systems design.

Who Should Attend?

Project leaders, departmental users and managers who are responsible for specifying or approving systems analysis and design efforts. Other project members, including designers and database administrators, can also benefit.

The Workshop Approach

We help you apply these techniques and skills to models from your own current development project, avoiding a canned case study. The last day of the workshop serves as a group walkthrough for quality assurance of the data and function models prepared to date for your development project, with summary recommendations for completion.

Timeline and Content

This workshop can be performed in three to five days, depending on the number of users and the scope of the assignment. A list of the topics and tasks involved is available on request.

EIS Workshop: Creating a Blueprint for Executive Information Systems

What Are the Goals of the EIS Workshop?

We create, with your key executives, a model of your current business information requirements, including the key elements for decision support in today's competitive markets. The resulting blueprints delivered by this workshop are used for subsequent database or data warehouse design and EIS application development.

What Are the Deliverables of the EIS Workshop?

We deliver a high-level data model (ERD), and function hierarchy, together with strategic recommendations and priorities for EIS database tables and systems design elements. We complete a written summary for forward steps to build your EIS.

Who Should Attend the EIS Workshop?

Executives and end user managers, who will be interviewed in JAD workshop sessions. We recommend one workshop per department or division, not to exceed eight persons. Project leaders, systems analysts, and designers are welcome to join in as appropriate.

Timelines for the EIS Workshop

We estimate two to three weeks for each department or division participating, as follows:
1 day of preparation, then 2 to 4 days for the interview/JAD process, plus 7 to 10 days for modeling and consolidation of results, and a final presentation.
